LEGISILATORS OUT OF THEIR MINDS.

A lot of us Malawians are asking themeselves what the politicians are thinking by coming up with proposals as changing some features of the national flag.

Questions are being asked regarding the intelligence our legislators.Whoever slept in his or her house and came up with this silly suggestion of changing our historical flag.

Why hiding on the fact that times have changed?The national flag is not associated with any party or anything bad in history for it to be changed.

There are so many important issues to be discussed and changed not the national flag.People are fed up silly politics,Discuss real issues that affect the ordinary citizen.

There is fuel shortages and some other issues that need to be looked into.Leave our flag on its own as it is.It has special meanings.

There are no good reasons to have the features on the flag changed.It needs to be treated with respect otherwise its going to loose its significance and the respect it deserves.

NEW PROPOSALS ON CAR IMPORTS

There hjave been reports in the national newspapers this week that the government intends to introduce new proposals as regards the importation on second hand cars into the country.

While these measures are good,they will also have and adverse effect on the economy of the country,various families who rely in selling second hand cars to make a living.

The reason being given is because people import alot of very old cars,this increases the lack of forex on the market.What an excuse.!!Blaming the poor man,yet you are forgetting the people up there in high paying jobs,the Asian traders who are scattered all over the country,trading in fake goods and in retrn taking money out ofthe country..Don't forget the corruption in our various banks.

Why can't the government put up measures like say ''anyone should not import a car not over 10years old than saying cars from 2002 onwards?''.You may ask why i am saying this.What will happen say in the next 20years because 2002 will be long gone and the cars around that time will be older again.Do you see the logic in this.It is a better way to put a number of years that a year to be specific.Some countries practice this.

There are also plans of hiking customs duty.The duty is already high right now,but its doubtiful if the money is put to good use.

I fear for the various Malawian families when these proposals come into place.A lot of Malawians will get into financial problems,thereby lots of suffering families,maybe an increase in crime too.I am not saying duty should not be increased but people should be considerd too.

WHERE IS THE FUEL?

Life is back to those days when we used to have a line people queing to buy fuel for their cars and paraffin for lamps.

Would you please explain why there is this scarcity Mr Minister responsible.People cant stand in with their cars in lines wanting to by fuel.Is this good for investment,if you talk of attracting foreign investors.

We already have a problem of power cuts.Stories have been told,about maintenance works being carried and its been years,no change has happened.Still the same problems,same stories each day.Some countries sack people running the respective government organisations.Now we have a problem of fuel,yet someone who is getting big headed now is buying a presidential jet.What a waster.You have had your time and soon you will be persecuted the same way you are doing to other politicians.

ON MINIMUM WAGE IN MALAWI

The country has so far seen an influx of lots of mostly Chinese and Middle Eastern investors on top of the already operating Indian,Pakistan and Sri Lankan traders that are scattered all over highly populated areas around the country.

Most of these employers treat their staff poorly.They have poor working conditions,some dont even have breaks,pay is very low despite the government saying there is a minimum wage of K185 per day.The question is what will K185 do to a person with a family.Most of us locals have to commute to work as well by public transport daily and the daily wage is not even enough..not even enough to buy half a kilogram of meat.(don't even dare to say the word tilapia.(chambo).I hear its imported fish,thats why so expensive.Some companies like one Chinese owned,Ice Cream manufacturer in Kanengo,Lilongwe pays staff K125 per day,what a load rubbish..

Its so disgusting to see and hear politicians complaining that their salaries are very low and needs and increase,yet their salary packages and other benefits are miles away from an average citizen.

Politicians get voted into power and forget aboout the local person.They forget about the neighbour they used to play bawo with,they forget their days they campaigned and the lies they said.MP's are there to present people's interests,but do they do that?..NO!!.The president himself has been busy paying lip service about cotton prices and threatening the buyers with action yet nothing is done. These hypocrites have no shame at all, once they are voted in power ,they stop caring about welfare of the voters. I do ask myself,will i be like this if i was in power.I have seen the problems people face.Do you now wonder when people say the second term is a flop?

Why is it that they sit and watch these so called foreign investors,ill treat loal Malawians.Are they scared of taking them head on?If they cannot comply with the laws of the country,they should have their licences withdrawn and deported from the country.We have laws that need to be followed.Even animals in the jungle have rules to be adhered to.

How come companies are getting away with this by paying hard working citizens lowly.You will be suprised that these foreign employers have people from their own countries who do same jobs that local Malawians do,yet they are on a higher rate of pay?Why is that?

When are we going to find politicians with he welfare of people at heart.Someone who will think of his people and make sure companies,investors,employers are following employment laws.When will the so called trade unions fight for workers rights.?People have got the right to good pay,than silly money for hard work.

MALAWI AND UNDERAGE SEX

There are has been an influx of tourists into various countries in Africa from various parts of the world.There are some who are genuine visitors but there are some with sick minds.

There has been a lot of these people going to Asian countries and exploiting poor kids for sex.These people are banned in their various countries not to be in any contact with any children,not even live close to a school.

The question now arises what are our countries doing about this?These people are commiting offenses right in front of our eyes yet nothing is being done.Our corrupt politicians and police personel are not bothered about doing something about this.People have been reporting to police but the suspects are out the next few hours.What do they want in 10 year old girls.??

Why do the law makers and those supposed to protect us let this happen?These people should be arrested,put into our filthy jails then deported to their countries.Most of these people are well known paedophiles in their respective countries.They pretend to come on holidays,yet they are here to abuse our poor kids and girls.

Something seriously needs to be done about this.A lot of these people are walking away with murder.

MALAWI TOBACCO PRODUCTION LOWERS..

It has been reported today that tobacco production in Malawi fell 26000 short of the projected figure for the 2008/2009 season.The reasons that have been given by the Tobacco Control Commission's senior officials are large scale smuggling and bad weather.

The production for the 2008/2009 growing season has been 224,000tonnes below the expected 250,000.Tobacco Control Commission's (TCC)General Manager, Mr Henderson Chimoyo said this still represent a rise that last years production.He said there has been a 26% rise in production this year.

Tobacco is the main export crop for this Southern Africa state.It is a main foreign exchange earning crop for the majority of the 13million population.

A lot of farmers have each year complained of poor prices offered at the tobacco auction floors despite the intervention on the country's president.The lower priecs offered by foreign buyers at the markets could be one other reason that has seen an increase in the smuggling of the crop to some neighbouring countries like Zambia and Mozambique.

A lot of farmers have complained that so much needs to be done for the farmers to help them earn enough for their hard work whch is not appreciated by the buyers from foregn countries.
