MALAWI AND IMMIGRATION

For along while, the Malawi has see an influx of foreigners into the country. There has been an increase of people from from allover the world ranging from Nigerians, Somalians, Rwandans, Burundians,Indians and all sorts from allover the world.

There are some who are in the country for valid reasons and then those who are here for economic reasons, weather legitimate or illegitimate. So many of them have opened up various kinds of businesses in our major shops selling all sorts of goods and equipment. There are een some, especially Nigerians dealing in counterfeit goods and documents.Devil Street in Lilongwe being the hub of affairs,as its name implies.

Of late there has been an increase of Chinese people in various locations of our cities and in some districts as well opening up shops etc.The question is,how many of these people are legitimate? We mean people who are allowed to stay here legally and do business,

There are so many questions to be answered as regards this matter. For example, why are refugees allowed to run businesses instead of having them in refugee holding camps? They are running businesses that us ordinary Malawians can do.They get help from United Nations and on op of that they are allowed to do businesses. Why do we have places like Dzaleka. As a matter of fact there is no more fighting in their respective countries, though bits of rebel attacks in Somalia. Why cant these people be sent back to their countries? Is the government getting something in return and that being the reason why they can not be pushed back to their countries ,due to the aid it gets?

There Nigerians, who arrange BOGUS MARRIAGES with some of our women so that they stay in the country to do various shady deals. Why are you ,our women sinking so low, allowing to be used in this way. Many of them are running various businesss like minibuses and other transportation business and using Malawian men and women as registered owners. This has been allowed for a long time and someting needs to be done. There are so many Indians working as SHOP BOYS,who act so shifty when they see you in their shops.A lot of Malawian men and women are walking down the streets everyday, looking for jobs that these Indians take.Wwhen they take these jobs as well you will find in most cases they better paid than local folks. Why are we suffering in silence?

Some may say disagree with me,i am being hormophobic.NO is the answer.Something need to be done, because we see and read alot about Malawians being deported from various countries for overstaying their visas, yet we are allowingit here. Why can't we do the same and get rid of these illegals. We have to agree that these people employ people, but it has to be legal because in most cases you will find that they do not pay government taxes.

It is time that, the government department responsible for this should wake up and do its job. There have been times where people have been deported and this has to continue.Better decisions have to be made by the people responsible other than just sitting in your posh offices, behind your office desks, drinking tea and waiting to be paid yet no GOOD job is being done. While i ma writing this i have been advised that some Burundians have been told to move back to Dzaleka Refugee Camp and stop trading.Thats a welcome development.Go and sweep the shops as well.
