Dr Bingu Wa Mutharika,the president of the Republic of Malawi has recently said his government will embark in various developmental projects so as to increase tourism in the country.This,he said in constructing good roads and improving the communication sector.
Its a suprise to see that it has taken the governement so long to see the impact tourism can have on a country's economy.Various questions are asked why the focus is mostly in farming yet we know rains are un predicatble these days due to global warming.
We have had Ministers of Tourism,why they are there is a question that everyone asks.One of their duties if they do not know is to promote the country worldwide about the various attractions it has.People comimg from various countries abroad bring in income which can help the country.Various countries do advertise in various international TV stations,the internet and various media.
Having inland ports is not going to help us in tourism,but in imports.We need to look in areas like game reserves,mountains and some other areas and how to put the country on the tourism map.We are being helped another way round by some celebrities in the entertainement world,lets do the other side ourselves.How will Rab Processors and Mulli Brothers help in tourism in the country?Is it bringing Indians to work in the companies in administrative jobs that local Malawians can do?Do you call that tourism?
